Blog Tour ~ Rotten by JL Brooks

Synopsis:

Growing up on the outskirts of Las Vegas as the daughter of notorious strip club owner, Stephen Knox, and a mother who abandoned her at birth, life was less than kind to a young Antoinette.

After a failed teenage suicide attempt, Toni hit the road in search of a life free of undeserved cruelty and any resemblance to her past.

Years later, Toni is lost in a dead end marriage and makes a painful confession that sends her back to the one place she always wanted to escape. But can she really right the wrongs that haunt her? Toni soon finds that the only place where things stay the same is in your mind.

When her path crosses with David Stark, childhood playmate turned one night stand, she cannot deny the spike in temperature she feels every time he's near or the scorching dreams that flood her at night.

Digging through the years of heartache, Toni soon finds herself torn between the man she is committed to and the one who has always held her heart. As each layer unfolds before her, she discovers the root cause of her pain. Always believing the source was external, nothing could prepare her for the truth.

~~Joni’s Review~~

From the moment I opened this book on my Kindle and read the dedication I was afraid this story was going to rip my heart out. The first part of the book broke my heart, but was something that happens far too often. I was hooked. I had to know what happened to Toni to make her go to such extreme measures.

Fast forward twelve years and Toni has changed her life. She has left everything she knew behind and was now “Annie” married to a man who didn’t deserve her. She visits Vegas once a year to see her father, but has never stepped foot back in her hometown since she left for college.

That is until she gets the call that none of us want to get and she has no other choice but to go home.

When she arrives back in town she sees the one person that broke her so long ago. David Stark. Instantly I knew there was more between these two than had been mentioned and the more I read the more I saw just how much Toni had wrong all those years.

She stayed in her hometown until one night she couldn’t take it anymore and she escaped back to Indiana and to a whole other hell. My heart hurt for her because all she wanted was to be a good person and overcome the past pain she had suffered.

When the world you know begins to fall apart how do you make it right?

I loved this book from beginning to end. I loved the interaction between David & Toni. You could feel there was more there and also their strong friendship from years ago. I also loved that this author put things in there that others do not it made it so much more real and had me laughing my ass off at these two.

This was a book that left a tear in my eye and a smile on my face and it gets 5 HUGE STARS!!!!

Excerpt-

Taking my index finger and placing it in my mouth, I slowly licked the top and sides before running my hand across my stomach and into my panties without breaking eye contact. Rolling my head back, I closed my eyes. “Get out.”

“Uh, uh, no way.” He stood motionless as he leaned against the dresser, his eyes fixed on the hand between my legs.

Giving an indignant sigh, I removed my hand and walked over to him. Running the index finger across my lips, inhaling the heady scent, I smiled lazily as his breathing increased. Without a word, I dipped my finger into his coffee mug and swirled it around a few times before giving it a shake and licking off the excess.

Batting my eyelashes, I smiled innocently. “I noticed yesterday you were low on sugar. You’re welcome.”
